Republic Services
The Town has contracted with Republic Services for solid waste and recycling services. Each household will be supplied with a 95-gallon gray trash cart and a 95-gallon green recycling cart by Republic for automated pickup services. Place all trash and recyclable items out no later than 7:00 a.m., for automated pickup between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on your service day.
The services with Republic Services include:
- A 95-gallon green recycling and gray trash cart will also be provided for automated pickup.
- At your door household hazardous waste (HHW) program.
- Weekly bundled yard waste pickup.

Trash & Recycling
Trash and recycling will be collected once a week. Please view the interactive map to determine your collection day. Republic Services will not service customer-owned trash carts under this contract. Any personal cart left out will be considered bulk trash and be removed.
Automated Trash Collection - Gray Cart
Household trash must be placed in the Gray Town of Prosper provided trash cart or up to ten disposable bags. Personal trash carts will not be serviced. If placed out, an empty personal cart will be considered bulk trash and taken away.
Automated Recycling Collection - Green Cart
Recyclables must be placed inside the Green Town of Prosper provided recycling cart.
When Should Carts Be Placed Out for Pickup?
Place all trash and recyclable items out no later than 7:00 a.m., for automated pickup between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. on your service day. Please place the gray trash cart and the green recycling cart with wheels toward the curb. Please ensure the trash and recycle carts are three feet apart and are clear of obstructions.

Holidays
When a holiday occurs, trash service will be delayed by one day. The 2025 holidays that will impact service:
- Thanksgiving - Thursday, November 27
- Christmas Day - Thursday, December 25
- New Year's Day - Thursday, January 1
No other holidays will affect service. Please note that these three holidays will also close the Saturday bulk drop-off at Prosper Public Works, 601 W 5th Street, too.The Town will provide holiday trash updates through our various online, print and email platforms.
Missed Pick Up?
If your trash or recycling was missed, please call 945-234-1924. Republic Services will try to return on the same day to service your carts. If their drivers have already left, we will collect them the following day.

Bulk Collection
Effective February 1, 2025, Town of Prosper residents can place up to 4 cubic yards of bulk waste weekly on their trash and recycling service day. Bulk includes appliances, pieces of furniture, or other residential items that are too large for a cart. Hazardous waste, car parts, tires, and non-compactible items, such as bricks and concrete, will not be collected with regular bulk trash. Up to four cubic yards will be collected on your scheduled bulk collection day, please refer to the Trash, Recycling, Brush and Bulk Schedule Map (PDF) to plan your weekly bulk/brush collection pickup.
Republic Services provides the following services to the residents of Prosper:
- Bulk collection services are provided on your designated collection pickup day. Place your brush/bulk at the curb before 7 a.m.
- Up to four cubic yards of bulk materials per collection.
- If the appliance had refrigerant or Freon®, it must have a tag by a certified technician that the refrigerant or Freon has been removed.
Bulky Waste - Acceptable Items
- Furniture
- Carpet (bundled in 4-foot lengths)
- Fence panels (maximum size 4'x6', with nails removed)
- Appliances such as washing machines, dryers, water heaters, and kitchen appliances
- Refrigerators and freezers (must include certification of refrigerant removal)
- Up to 10 additional trash bags
Bulky Waste - Prohibited Items
- Commercial construction or remodeling debris
- Household hazardous waste
- Car parts, tires, batteries, and propane tanks
- Bricks and concrete
- Debris from commercial tree service providers

Yard Waste Bags and Yard Waste Bundles
Yard waste must be placed in kraft bags or other sacks authorized by the Town. Items placed in kraft bags will be picked up weekly.
Kraft bags can store the following:
- Yard waste of grass
- Leaves
- Flowers
- Stalks
- Tree trimmings
- Brush and branches not exceeding 40 lbs
Limbs or Brush
Limbs or brush must be cut into lengths of four feet or less and must be securely tied with no limbs exceeding six inches in diameter and no bundle exceeding 50 lbs. Yard debris from commercial landscaping or tree services cannot be left by the curb for residential bulk pickup or taken to the bulk collection dropoff site on 5th Street.
Saturday Bulk Collection Drop-Off
Bulky items may be dropped off at Prosper Public Works, 601 W 5th Street, on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and noon. Please be prepared to show your Prosper Utility Bill proving your residency in the Town of Prosper.
No other holidays will affect the Saturday bulk collection drop-off. The Town will provide holiday trash updates through our various online, print and email platforms.
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection
Prosper residents can utilize the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program one time per year at no cost to the resident. To schedule a pickup, please fill out and save the HHW fillable form and email it to prosperhhw@republicservices.com. If you have any questions, please call Republic Services at 469-451-3713, or email prosperhhw@republicservices.com to receive the required bags.

On New Year's Day (January 1), Thanksgiving (November 28), and Christmas Day (December 25), collection services will be delayed by one day, with service resuming on the following day (Tuesday for New Year's Day, Friday for Thanksgiving, and Thursday for Christmas Day).

Yard waste will be collected weekly on your trash and recycling service day. Leaves and grass clippings must be placed in brown biodegradable bags in order to be recycled. Unlimited tied and bundled brush will also be accepted. Use only biodegradable cotton/jute rope, twine, or string to tie and bundle tree and brush trimmings. Do not bundle tree and brush trimmings with nylon rope, plastic, metal, garden hoses, or other non-compostable materials.

Please remove all gas and oil from the item. The homeowner can place the item for bulk trash pick up on their bulk trash pick up day or use the Saturday drop-off service at the Public Works building located at 601 W. Fifth St between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon. You must show proof of residency with a current Prosper utility bill.
- We are selling our home, how do I return the trash cans? How does the new owner receive them?

The trash and recycle carts should stay at the address for the new tenants. Our Utility Customer Service department advises that you leave them inside the garage for the new tenants. - Is there a trash dump or landfill that we can take trash to ourselves?

Yes, there is a landfill within the City of Melissa, Texas, located at 3820 Sam Rayburn Highway (SH 121). There is a fee to use the landfill. You may not use the Custer Road transfer station in Plano, Texas. For up-to-date costs and hours call (469) 626-4452.
