Prosper Fishing Derby

Plan to spend a reel-y great morning outdoors at the annual Prosper Fishing Derby! The Derby invites young anglers to cast their lines and compete for prizes for Most Fish Caught while families enjoy an informal, relaxing morning together. 

This event is all about fresh air, friendly competition, and making lasting memories by the water. Gather around the pond, cheer on the kids, and enjoy a classic community tradition that’s fun for the whole family! Remember to bring your own fishing gear, bait, cooler, and chair. As the weather can be chilly, please check the forecast and dress accordingly!

This community event is free of charge and registration is not required.

Whether it’s your child’s first time fishing or they’re already a pro, the Derby is fun for all ages! After the competition, prizes will be awarded under the large pavilion near Windmill Playground. First-place finishers will be recognized in the following age categories: 1–4, 5–6, 7–8, 9–10, 11–12, and 13–14.

Know Before You Go

• Bring your own pole, bait, and cooler.
• Check the weather and dress accordingly!
• Warm drinks will be available to keep you warm.

Prosper Fishing Derby Procedures

• Upon arrival at the Derby, choose your spot anywhere at the pond's edge. 
• Adults may assist their children, yet please refrain from fishing during the event. 
• Judges are stationed around the pond to track catches of the day. 
• Participants are asked to show their fish to the same judge each time a fish is caught.

The pond will be stocked in advance of the event with mostly rainbow trout by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The Derby is a catch-and-keep event for trout only, with a limit of five per person. 

Anglers 17 and older must possess a valid Texas fishing license (available online). For information, please check the Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept. website.
