Water Meter Replacement Program

The Town of Prosper will begin implementing a water meter replacement program for older water meters throughout the Town. We will begin replacement Spring 2025 (after winter averaging). This will be an ongoing program with aged meters being replaced annually to ensure residents are being billed fairly and accurately. There is no cost to residents associated with the replacement or installation of a new water meter.

WHY REPLACE METERS?

Aging water meters tend to:

  • Lose accuracy
  • Become less reliable
  • Require more maintenance

HOW WILL I BE NOTIFIED?

All affected residents will receive notification.

  • Months Prior: You will receive a notification letter by mail.
  • Week Prior: A door hanger will be placed at your residence.
  • Day of Replacement: A Town of Prosper employee will knock on your door to inform you of a brief interruption in water service. (Typically less than 30 minutes)

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?

  • You do not need to be home during the replacement.
  • Replacements will occur during our normal working hours with the possibility of occasional Saturdays.
  • It is a quick process! You will only be without water for less than 30 minutes.

WILL THIS NEW METER AFFECT MY WATER BILL?

Older meters tend to be less accurate. It is a possibility that you may see an increase in your monthly water bill as your older meter may have been measuring inaccurately or a potential leak may have gone unnoticed. If your old meter was operating properly, you may not see any changes to your monthly bill. You can always check your water usage and set up leak alerts via the ACE Portal.
